Ahhhh yes we are a household that does the dreaded elf every year. We tried not to, we really did. But I caved when my son kept coming home from school wondering where his elf was? So of course we went and picked one up and the very next day our Elf had arrived. Now the first year we did this I probably remembered him like 7 or 8 times the entire month. The second year I was better, but last year and Im sooo proud to say, I remembered every single day from Dec 1st through Dec 24th. I struggle so hard coming up with ideas so I thought I would share what I have done. Now I know some start the day after Thanksgiving but thats just way to many days for me so I start Dec 1st every year. Now Im no expert on the elf on the shelf but this is what I did. Some days I had a letter board saying something on it as well.

the first day I had him come back with the letters to Santa, you can buy these and they are like shrinky dinks that the kids can write there list and then shrink it so the elf can carry it back to Santa soo cute, sign said Im back!!
elf made cinnamon rolls, the sign said, "Let me see ur cinna-roll"
elf made a mess making hot chocolate
elf, hid candy canes all over and the sign said, "hide and seek"
elf brought reindeer cookies (the big decorated ones, from target)
had the elf eating popcorn watching his own movie
had elf coloring in a color book
elf tangled up in floss, the sign said, "is this how you floss?"
set up a spa in the sink and sign said, "relax its Friday"
had the elf bring a gingerbread kit
had elf having a snowball fight with donuts and marshmallows
had the elf make a mess with sprinkles on the gingerbread house
had the elf making smores
had elf flying from the ceiling fan
had elf do a magic trip... this is 2 nights and the best!! have the elf leave a egg or two with glitter which is the magic dust, have your kid sprinkle the glitter on the eggs and then for day two, I switch them out with kinder eggs
had the elf trying to make cookies
had the elf stuck in the blinds, while coming back from the north pole
had the elf camping under the tree
had the elf wearing toast and the sign says "we were cold but now were toasty"
i bought a box of little Debbie's Christmas trees and put them on a plate with sign saying, "north pole Christmas trees"
had the elf with supplies to make reindeer food
the last night, he came with the gift that was written on the Santa letter and a letter from the elf saying see ya next year
Some of these ideas I will probably use again this year just because there fun but I have a bunch of new ideas to use this year. I hope some of these are helpful, I know this is a challenging month for us elf parents (haha).
As always thanks for reading and you can follow along over on IG
